13 children from our real world, and from different time periods, travel through ancient doorways to find themselves in another world called Neian; a heathery and green land of talking animals, mythical creatures, Old Gods such as Diana, Hercules, Morpheus, Mother Earth, Father Time and Pan, and a Christ-like creature who comes the shapes of a giant white dove, a bull, a lion and an eagle. Neian is also the home of disappeared children from the The Pied Piper of Hemelin and the Children's Crusade; and also disappeared kids like young Prince Louis from the French Revolution and Princess Anastasia of Russia. Other Countries/People exist such as the Arthurian/Crusader Lacklanders, the swarthy and turbaned Palamedes, the Shakespearean/Piratical Triad Islanders, the Oriental/Imperial Tahanese and the civilized/militaristic but barbarous Egothellons. The children battle many villains such as the beautiful but proud and maniacal Golden Witch Amartia and her handsome but cruel half-brother Thanatus. They discover new worlds such as the Water of Madness, the deadly Tree of Gold and the Lower Lands of the undergrounds filled with ancient secrets and giant skeletons.
